Tell us about your band.

We are a hardcore band from San Jose, CA (SF Bay Area). Maya has been together since 2004. Started as a high school band. The biggest accomplishments we’ve done is a self release in 2009 and sold over 1000 copies. With that being said, Maya has been able to tour through out the U.S., Mexico, and Central America. Our current goals have been to put our our second release on Negative Progression Records and continue to tour and travel to new countries.

Have you ever had your music played on College or FM Radio?

Maya released a demo in 2006. It was nothing big but we were able to be broadcasted on KSJS 90.1 Collage FM radio. The station is located on San Jose State University campus and we were brought in to promote a local hardcore fest we had coming up. The second time we had the chance to be on FM radio was when we released our self release called, “Things Get Worse Before They Get Better.” KSJS played a few tracks and keep them on the air a few times a week but never keep up with the station.

What things did your band try in order to get on the radio and did they work?

We really never aimed to get our tracks on the radio. Everything now is so DIY we can put a podcast or a web feed and be on the air. We have been given the chance to do a few non profit and collage stations.

Stay tuned for our next installment of “Getting on the Radio: Tales of Toil and Triumph”! Be sure to submit music for radio airplay on Earbits!
