The lineup for Hard Summer 2013, the two-day annual event which closes the summer in Downtown Los Angeles’s too-dusty State Historic Park, has been announced. Hard Summer usually features an eclectic mix of DJs and rappers, as opposed to the more house-oriented events like Hard Haunted Mansion (or Hard Day of the Dead, as it was called last year).
Headlining the festival on the first night, Saturday, August 3rd, is Knife Party, Duck Sauce and Dog Blood. Duck Sauce is the collaboration between Armand Van Helden and A-Trak responsible for that “Barbara Streisand” song, and Dog Blood consists of Skrillex and Boys Noize. Also performing on Saturday is Flying Lotus, the producer that seems to be at every hip-hop/electronic-based LA event. Just Blaze, the producer known more for his hip-hop beats than his DJ sets, will also do a set— likely a nod to the trap-heavy lineup which includes artists like TNGHT, RL Grime and Ryan Hemsworth. 2 Chainz’ll be there, too.
The hip-hop/trap lineup on Sunday, August 4th is less stacked, although it does include Flosstradamus (the Chicago duo that’ve been playing that style for a while now) and Baauer (the man responsible for spreading that style throughout the world with the all-but-forgotten Harlem Shake phenomenon). A strong headlining trio of Justice (although they’re just performing a DJ set), Bassnectar and Empire of the Sun round out the festival’s last night. Let the Daft Punk rumors begin.
