Aaralyn and Izzy are a one-schtick-wonder.  The duo, composed of a sweet-looking 6-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother, appeared on America’s Got Talent and advanced in the competition due to a simple, admittedly humorous incongruity: little kids like that shouldn’t be singing heavy metal music.  The otherwise soft-spoken Aaralyn screamed passionately in a harsh voice to original songs such as “Dog Poop.”  Howard Stern quickly put the duo in its place, explaining that their act, while undoubtedly amusing the first time, is not quite repeatable.

But the joke of kids-singing-heavy-metal was not invented by Aaralyn and Izzy.  Prior to the appearance of those two on AGT, an 8-year-old girl named Juliet had already won the hearts of YouTube viewers with her charming “My First Hardcore Song.” Fucked Up’s Damien Abraham recently tweeted a picture of himself onstage, his young child on his shoulders, singing along to his barely-decipherable lyrics. This is what happens when metalheads grow old.  Their piercings diminish, their tattoos fade (they wish), and their families grow larger.  But their tastes in music remain the same. Metal, for some, is still rebellious.  For others, it’s just the music their parents listen to.

Although the joke of kids listening to metal is nothing new, there is something inherently funny about it. It doesn’t seem natural for kids to be listening to such angry music. Then again, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it.

KEN Mode understands this, and that’s why the video for their song “Secret Vasectomy,” off their recently-released album Entrench, is worth a view. The video consists of several kids doing things in a decidedly angry fashion— namely brushing their teeth and scribbling in crayon— while the band’s heavy riffage blares in the background.  Those angry scribbles turn out to be some pretty cool pictures, though.  Although the children don’t necessarily sing along to the song, you get the sense that this is the type of music that they’ll like when they’re older.  Or the kind that they like now.  Why not?  Check out the video below.
