I love my job. Not many people can say that. Why do I love it, you ask? I do nothing but listen to Earbits all day, which provides me some serious time to peruse the up and coming music that we are constantly adding. From Metal to Jazz, and everything in between, I am ever-impressed by the catalog that our music department is building. Frankly, it’s getting ridiculous.

What does this mean to you?

It means that I have heard thousands of songs on Earbits, and I have hand-picked some great tracks that you may or may not have heard along your musical journey. I am not an expert, by any means, but I’m sure you will agree – Earbits has some pretty bad-ass music, and I found a few gems that I think you will enjoy.

This blog marks the first in a series of quick-click guides to some of the catchiest songs on Earbits. In this first installment – which I am cleverly calling “Look What I Found!”: Mixtape Edition – I will toss out ten solid, ‘can’t miss’ tracks that range in genre from toe-tapping to mosh-pit-destroying. You click, you listen, you find new music! Easy as that.

Now, sit back, pop in the mixtape, and discover new music on Earbits!

Of Montreal – “I Feel Ya Strutter”

Indie Pop | http://www.earbits.com/s/iNEGEI4zVVMD14

The opening notes of this song will improve your mood, guaranteed. Frontman Kevin Barnes is genius, and Of Montreal’s high-energy sound is as original as they come. A great first track for our mixtape.

Slightly Stoopid – “Top of the World”

Reggae Rock | http://www.earbits.com/s/ch2I99oXYsRD14

Track 2 is a brand new song from the latest Slightly Stoopid record of the same name. Get ready for more of the Cali-Rock style that has made them so popular –  a groove that you can dance to!

Alabama Shakes – “You Ain’t Alone”

R&B / Soul http://www.earbits.com/s/19JTeiNwuNDqgE

Alabama Shakes are one of the most talented bands going today. If you saw their performance of this song at Bonnaroo 2012, then you fell in love with Brittany Howard – just like I did.

Skerik’s Bandalabra – “Charlie Don’t Like It”

Jazz / Funkhttp://www.earbits.com/s/xw2qQlrz8eMu2

Skerik’s Bandalabra is damn funky, and that saxophone just cannot be denied. This is track 4 of our tape, and it’s a good one. Finely-crafted funky Jazz with a very unique spin. Gotta love it!

Dead Sara – “Weatherman”

Hard Rockhttp://www.earbits.com/s/zBNAFLV6lsRD14

Track 5 of our mixtape is a song that I just cannot stop listening to. This Hard Rock group from Los Angeles puts an edge on their music that is rare. You don’t listen to this song, you feel it.

D-Sisive – “The Riot Song”

Hip Hophttp://www.earbits.com/s/ziqxV01ziHMXo

The next track features one of Canada’s top emcees, D-Sisive, who is getting bigger by the release. If you dig this, then you should also go download Asian Elvis. Free, brand-new D-Sisive that is sure to entertain.

Vision of Disorder – “The Enemy”

Track 7 is the heaviest song on the tape. V.O.D. holds a special place in my heart; they rank among my favorite bands of all-time. But fan or not, this song kicks ass. Their first single after a near-decade long hiatus as a band, and it is well worth the wait.

Diego’s Umbrella – “Thrash Mexican Budapest”

Gypsy Rockhttp://www.earbits.com/s/b49Dp3XITKZu2

If you haven’t seen Diego’s Umbrella live, do anything it takes (within the law) to see them. Track 8 features San Francisco’s resident Gypsy Rockers, Diego’s Umbrella.

Eilen Jewell – “Warning Signs”

Rock & Roll | http://www.earbits.com/s/9mbZwzweaeTpgE

Our next track features Eilen Jewell. I have to admit: Eilen is a doll, and her music defines cool in my book. Her record, ‘Queen of the Minor Key’ is a downright authentic Rock & Roll album. This is one that you should definitely check out.

Jesse Thomas – “Sidewalk Ends”

The last track features Jesse Thomas. Jesse’s songs are well-written with meaningful lyrics, and her voice is off the charts. If you want to hear an early version of this song, check out this interview with her just before ‘War Dancer’ dropped.
