Why aren’t more people talking about Police Teeth? The Seattle band is on the label Latest Flame, and I’m incredibly surprised that they have yet to become the latest flame in popular alternative music discussions/circles. That was a terrible pun, but I still stand by my opinion. Police Teeth is a great band, and they aren’t receiving the recognition that they deserve. In fact, Awesomer Than The Devil is the band’s third album since their formation in 2006. Hopefully it will reach a larger audience and bring the band the fan base that it deserves.
The best way to describe Awesomer For The Devil is harder, faster music for the indie rock crowd. This album is just aggressive enough for those that haven’t fully evolved out of their rebellious, punk stage (see “Send More Cops”), and just melodic and polite enough for those that have moved on to different styles (see “Summertime Bruise”).
Police Teeth is a near perfect of example fo the types of bands that Los Angeles’s FYF puts shows on for: scrappy, loud, but palatable for those that enjoy different sounds. The band has strong sensibilities for both melody and noise, as well as the way those two components can and should be mixed together.
Awesomer Than The Devil is available for purchase via Last Flame Records here, on iTunes, or in various record stores throughout the country. The album came out over a month ago, but after discovering the band last week it’s been playing on repeat on my iTunes. If you haven’t already heard of the band, check out their bandcamp page, where you can stream their two previous albums.
