Sometimes you’ll find your favorite songs by listening to the radio, sometimes you just need to pointed to the right station.  Here’s a list of some of the best songs on Earbits Radio this week, organized by channel.  Click on the track titles to listen.

Bluegrass: Cornmeal— “Midnight”

Cornmeal is a Chicago-based bluegrass band with a unique take on the traditional genre.  “Midnight” is the first track from the band’s 2003 album Tales From Magic Stone Mountain.

House: Color Theory— “Drive You Home”

If you’ve ever watched How I Met Your Mother, you know how loyal Minnesotans are to their home state.  Marshall, Jason Segal’s character, loves the place.  There have been several dramatic  moments on the show (SOMEWHAT OF A SPOILER ALERT) that involve Marshall wanting to move back to the Midwestern state while his girlfriend/eventual wife Lily opposes the idea.

In real life, Minnesotans aren’t much different.  The Hold Steady’s lyrics are filled with pride for the The North Star State, and singer Craig Finn often wears Twins gear onstage.  One of my friends is from Duluth, MN, and he’s obsessed with his hometown (even though it’s been voted one of the coldest cities in the United States).

The complete list of nominations for the 54th Grammy Award ceremony was announced yesterday.  Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars are set to duke it out for the ceremony’s highest honors— Album Of The Year.  Surprisingly, the album that received several perfect scores and topped many of last year’s best-of-the-year lists, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is absent from the list of nominees in that category.

Most exciting around here is the amount of Earbits artists that are nominated for an award.  There are bands and musicians that span several categories.  Check out the list of nominated Earbits artists below, and a list of the official nominations below that.

Laura Meyer is one of the busiest independent artists out there. With a sweet sounding Folk-Rock style, she has played both the Telluride Bluegrass and Rocky Mountain Folks Festivals, and just recently settled down in Venice, California after four years of touring. Yes. I said four years. Learn more about Laura Meyer, who recently got a chance to chat with Yotam Rosenbaum of Earbits. Enjoy!

Yotam Rosenbaum: Hello, this is Yotam Rosenbaum with Earbits. And today with me is Laura Meyer, singer/songwriter, who has just settled down in Venice, California, after, I believe, four years on the road, which is pretty amazing. How are you doing?
